Who is Kale the Quick?
Hello. If you have come this far then I am just going to assume that you have a sense of humor. My mother calls me Thomas Everett Haynes, but online and professionally I go by Kale the Quick. Back when I was a kid in the 90s with dial up you NEVER told anyone online your real name, so I got to choose one. Therefore, I am Kale, the Quick.
I am a self taught programmer, artist, musician, engineer, and whatever else I need done. I had initially gathered a group of friends to make video games with me, but as they traveled away one by one I learned the skills I needed to get everything done. Now I'm a little bit of the "full stack" game developer. I'm definitely not the best at some of those skills, 2D art and music probably being my worst, with programming and communication being the best. If you want a rounded individual with a wide knowledge base, then I'm the one you are looking for.
Biography
I was born in Oakland, California, and slowly moved up the coast throughout my life until I got to Vancouver, WA. In 2007 I joined the US Army as a Combat Medic and deployed to Camp Bucca, Iraq in 2008. I was wounded and could no longer run, so I got out of the Army in 2011 and attended Washington State University until 2013. I traveled around Seattle for some time, and now we are here.
Why do I want to develop games?
While I was teaching myself how to program and learning so much more every day, my father entered hospice care. I traveled to see him and I showed him what I had been working on on my old laptop I had had since Iraq. I had not made anything noteworthy, just a couple of space things in Java. But I was proud and so was he. So on his death bed I promised to name my son after him, and that I would make people happy by making video games. I am motivated. I am going to do it. You can help.
